Abstract

Following the high failure rates of small businesses partly attributed to leadership, the study evaluated the effect of entrepreneurial leadership on value co-creation and the role of employee relations and organisational support among small businesses in Abia State. Using a survey of 314 employees, factor analysis and the Hayes macro process were used in dimension reduction and testing the mediation and moderation effects. The findings revealed opportunity-seeking, decisionmaking, and creativity as dimensions of entrepreneurial leadership (EL), with creativity as the strongest contributor. Employee relations significantly mediated the relationship between EL and value co-creation. Also, organisational support moderated the relationship between EL and value co-creation. The results suggested that EL is vital in a dynamic business environment to co-create value, while a superior result on value co-creation comes from employee relations’ mediation and organisational support’s moderation. This study made a significant contribution to scholarship in small business leadership and advanced the survival and success of small business studies in Nigeria.
